Ex pat kiwi Stephen Gray trained Hard Too Think to win the G1 Singapore Derby. Hard Too Think unleashed a powerful run to win comfortably by a length from Big Hearted. Hard Too Think gave trainer Gray his second Derby triumph, after Lim's Prestige in 2007.

Such was the influence that kiwi trainer Laurie Laxon had in Singapore racing that trainers, jockeys & officials paused for a minutes silence for the legendary trainer who passed away during the week. Laxon trained 1263 winners from 2000-2017 and was crowned champion trainer on nine occasions

Former Westbury Stud Westbury Stud stallion Makfi sired winners of the first two races at JRA-Hakodate. A 2yo colt winning over 1200m, then the following race a 3yo filly winning over 1700m. Makfi best performer in Japan is 3yo colt Vigenere, a winner of two and a second in a Listed race from seven starts.
