'Jimmy Barnes is football!': Aussie rock icon lights up NRL GF in epic pre-game show

Rock great Jimmy Barnes topped the list of musical talent on hand at Accor Stadium to entertain fans in the lead-up to the the 2022 NRL Grand Final.

Before Barnes took centre stage, Diesel, Bliss N Eso featuring Joy, Sheldon Riley, Josh Teskey, Mahalia Barnes, Emma Donovan and A.GIRL all performed to a packed house.

The enertainment kicked off before the NRLW decider with Mahalia Barnes, daughter of Jimmy Barnes, Emma Donovan and A.GIRL putting on a show at the southern end of the stadium.

The trio set the tone for the night with an entertaining performance of iconic Aussie classic, ‘The Realy Thing’.

One of Australia’s most well-known hip hop acts, Bliss N Eso performed with JOY in front of an enthusiastic mosh-pit after male and female players were presented to the crowd.

Up next was Sheldon Riley, who performed a gripping rendition of ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’.

 

Riley may not be a household name but he is quickly rising in notoriety after performing on a number of talent shows, including The Voice, X Factor and The Masked Singer.

He also recently represented Australia at Eurovision 2022... And now he can add the NRL Grand Final to his resume.

Barnes made an entrance and kicked off his set with fan favourite ‘Working Class Man’ with Diesel on the guitar, before singing ‘No Second Prize’ and ‘Lay Down Your Guns’ to a crowd that was soaking up every moment.

He took things up a notch with one of his most popular songs, ‘Good Times’ in a duet with Josh Teskey, who is known for his work with The Teskey Brothers.

Barnes was a hit with rugby league fans, who took to Twitter to show their support.
