There was couple of Cup races decided during the period when the NZ Derby and the NZ Oaks series were being contested. Earlier in the month we saw Egomaniacal deliver a strong gallop to annex the $6,500 Dunedin Cup.

There will be a sombre atmosphere at the Cambridge Raceway on Thursday evening at the New Zealand Derby meeting following the passing of the Waikato GRC life member Max Mathews on Monday. He was regarded as the patriarch of the Tokoroa GRC.

It was tense times at the Manawatu Raceway at around 7pm on Friday evening with all eyes of the large crowd gathered on-course firmly focused on the results/timing board following the completion of the final City of Palmerston North Golden Chase 457m two dog match race.
