Jockey Jim Byrne ensured he would begin a suspension tonight on a high after bringing up treble on Tiyatrolani at Doomben.

Tony Gollan's new training tactics paid off when Tiyatrolani ($13) held on by a nose to beat River Race ($7.50) in the Listed Mick Dittman Plate (1050m).

"I didn't give her a jumpout or a trial this time in. Last year she was a real speed horse but this time she is settling better," Gollan said.

"Whether we press on to the better races in the winter will be up to Eureka Stud who race her. But she got black type today and that was important.

"She sat behind the pace today and finished very strongly. I had no hesitation stepping her out to 1300 metres in the summer and that is a winter option."

Earlier Byrne brought up his 100th Queensland winner for the season on  Tiyatrolani's stablemate El Campeador.

Byrne, who also won on Mr Lebrock, is second on both the state and Brisbane premierships behind runaway leader Jeff Lloyd. He has also ridden two winners in the northern rivers to give him overall 103 wins for the season.

Byrne begins a week's suspension means he will miss next Saturday's Eagle Farm meeting.
