David Hayes says Newmarket Handicap winner Redkirk Warrior is favourite to take The Star's slot in the The Everest at Randwick.

The Sydney casino bought a slot in the A$10 million race at Randwick on October 14 and nominated Lindsay Park to provide a runner.

The stable has yet to confirm its nomination but Hayes said following a jumpout at Flemington today, Redkirk Warrior was favoured.

He will have a trial at Tatura on August 22 before contesting the Gr. 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality at Flemington on September 16. That gives the stable four weeks to The Everest.

"He's the favourite at the moment for that slot," Hayes said. "He's a Group One horse and is good fresh.

"We're going to go to the Bobbie Lewis and then he's got nice spacing though to the Everest to practise on that Sydney leg."

Hayes said Redkirk Warrior may then step up to 1600 metresfor the Cantala Stakes or remain at 1200 metres for the Darley Classic during the Melbourne Cup carnival.

"We could then look at the international races in Hong Kong as he's owned there," Hayes said.

Goodwood winner Vega Magic also stepped out in a jumpout ahead of his likely return in the Regal Roller Stakes at Caulfield on August 19.

Vega Magic's first spring target is the Gr. 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on September 2. Hayes is also hopeful Vega Magic can earn an Everest slot.

"After the Memsie we'll be making a decision with the owners whether they want to chase a slot in the Everest or go up in distance for races like the Makybe Diva," Hayes said. "If horses are in form I think slots will become available."
