Dual Group 1 winner Vega Magic will be sidelined for the late summer/autumn period, with the horse on the recovering trail from a paddock mishap in late November.

While his trainer David Hayes is disappointed to miss Melbourne's Festival of Racing, including races like the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) and Futurity Stakes (1400m) with the son of Lope De Vega, he is adamant the setback wont inhibit the galloper's chances of avenging his runner-up finish behind Redzel in the $10 million Everest in Sydney next October.

"There was an electrical storm that hit the property and of the 120 horses that were spelling, he was the one that hit the fence," he said.

"He needed stitches as Goulburn Valley (Equine Hospital) and it’s not life threatening but it will set him back returning until a little bit later.

"But he's really being set for The Everest again next year so it's just a matter of getting him back in a bit of trim [fitness] and maybe having a race in the late autumn."
