Trainer Matthew Smith is happy to keep his progressive New Zealand-bred Plymouth Road in his own grade.

The Warwick Farm conditioner produced the son of Tavistock to win over 2400m at Randwick last time out and will sidestep Saturday’s Listed Winter Cup (2400m) in favour of a softer Rosehill option over the same trip.

“He likes wet tracks which it seems he will get again,” Smith said. “He loves to get out and into his own rhythm.

“He is ideally suited to winter tracks and 2400m and maybe even further so we will keep going through the grades and see where it takes us.”
