Champion trainer Chris Waller is expecting the New Zealand-bred and owned The Macallan to give a bold account of himself in his Australian debut at Rosehill on Saturday.

“He’s a nice, progressive horse and he had a soft barrier trial last Friday and did everything right,” he said.

Raced by Bruce Sherwin, Guy Mulcaster and Raffles Racing, The Macallan won two of his five starts for Cambridge trainer Tony Pike.

“This will be the furthest he’s raced over and he gives me the impression that it won’t be a problem, I’m sure he’ll run well,” Waller said.

The Macallan will be ridden by James McDonald in a Benchmark 75 handicap over 1800m.
