The arms race for spectacular new races between NSW and Victoria seems set to continue with both news.com.au and smh.com.aureporting that NSW will have a new spring race at Randwick worth millions, possibly $8 million, in stakes over either a sprint or middle distance.

In details selectively released to the media organisations the new race may not be a slot race like The Everest and may run following The Everest, meaning that it will run on the same day as the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in 2019.

While no public details have been released on the financial returns of The Everest raceday, and the race itself, it appears that Racing NSW will announce the race later this week along with another new race on the basis that they will stimulate both interest in racing and turnover.

The reports indicated that the Australian Turf Club was only told of the forthcoming announcement after the Racing NSW Board approved the plan last Thursday.

Racing Victorian and the three Melbourne racing clubs recently announced the concept of a multiple million stake All Stars race over 1600m in the late summer with the public voting for 10 of the 14 strong field.
