Cranbourne trainer Matthew Brown was delighted with the run of first-starter Prix De Turn (NZ) (Turn Me Loose), who finished runner-up in a strong three-year-old contest over 1400m at Sandown on Saturday.

The colt is by Turn Me Loose (NZ) (Iffraaj), a horse whom Brown followed closely through his racing career as his father Scott had a share in the triple Group One winner.

Prix De Turn is a member of Turn Me Loose’s eldest crop, and the young Windsor Park Stud stallion is making a favourable impression with five winners to date and a host of promising gallopers.

Sent out a $41 prospect, Brown said he left Sandown with a spring in his step on Saturday after beating all bar Extreme Flight.

“We knew he was pretty talented, but you’ve still got to get there and see them do it at the track,” Brown told SEN.

“He still did a few things wrong but he was game in defeat and we certainly left the racecourse pretty happy.”

Prix De Turn holds a nomination for the Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 9 but is up against it to make the field after making his debut slightly later than hoped due to a minor set-back.

“We’ve just got to cross our fingers now and hope he can get a run, that’s the problem. But he’s definitely good enough to be pretty competitive because he’s got a fair bit of improvement there.

“Wherever he goes next, he’s going to have improved a hell of a lot with his day out and hopefully he can go one better.”
