He is still tiny and has a “bung” eye, but Chicago Bull is ready to pick-up where he left off.

That’s the snapshot from trainer Gary Hall Sr ahead of Chicago Bull’s return to racing at Gloucester Park tomorrow (Friday) night. It’s his first run since completing the huge Fremantle/WA Cup double back in January.

“He’s been through a bit since then, especially with nearing losing an eye. The eye doesn’t look great, but he can see through and, gee, his work has been good,” Hall Sr said.

“I thought a found good race for him restricted to M2-M4 horses, but he’s drawn wide (eight) and it’s 1730m which makes it a real challenge.

“Throw in the fact Erskine Range looks the leader from the pole and he can run 1min54sec and little Chicago is going to have to go super to win from the draw.

“He’s ready to run a big race and I think he’ll be hard to beat, but it’s not just a matter of turning up and winning that’s for sure.”

Hall Sr also has a strong hand in the free-for-all (race six) with Run Oneover (six) and Beaudiene Boaz (nine).

“If you ask Clint (Hall) he’d say Run Oneover is our best chance, but I’d go with Beaudiene Boaz after his run last time,” he said.

“They are both drawn wide, but it’s 2536m which helps them.

“Heez On Fire is the one they have to beat. He’s absolutely flying and is drawn six.”

Hall Sr said another of open-class stars Ohoka Punter was still spelling after a quarter crack.

“He’ll be given all the time he needs for it to grow out. I’d say he’ll spell until at least the end of this month,” he said.

“That means it will be October before he’s back at the races, but it still gives us a good run in to the Inter Dominion.

“He’s had some knockers over here, but the quarter crack was troubling him. I love him. I’m sure he’ll be a big chance in anything he contests when he gets over this setback.”
