Exciting Otago trotter Blazing Under Fire has been sold and will do his future racing in Sydney.
The eight-win, pacing-bred speedster was down to race at Forbury Park on Sunday but has since been scratched.
“He’s gone; he’s already over there,” said Oamaru-based trainer Phil Williamson.
“He had been on the market for a while and there was no interest in him.
“Then, all of a sudden, everyone wanted him at the last minute.”
Noted Menangle trainer Blake Fitzpatrick purchased and will train Blazing Under Fire.
“Blake bought him through a local fella that he knows who knew the horse was on the market.”
Williamson says the son of Washington VC will most likely be the best value buy ever to come out of his stable.
“He’ll be the best buy at the price that I’ve ever sold.
“He’s only five and it’s all ahead of him.
“He will do a super job and could be a Group 1 horse over there.”
Williamson said the decision to sell was made easy by the fact that the horse was getting further back in the handicaps in Otago/Southland and that he was earning insulting money for winning.
“The cheque arrived for his last two wins at Forbury Park and it was $6,700 total.
“That’s ridiculous, frankly, and it made the decision to sell him easy.
“We probably could have sent him up to Auckland for the better stakes but then you’re paying $1500 or more per month.”
While he doesn’t have a topliner in the barn, Williamson is never short of a good horse and thinks he might just have an unraced one that fits the bill.
“Davey Mac is almost ready to race after putting a big hole in his leg at Christmas time.
“I might trial him, I might not.
“He’s got a bit of the x-factor, I think, and has been worth the wait.”
Davey Mac, named after commentator Dave MacDonald, is a five-year-old Sundon full brother to Group 1 winner Irish Whisper.
The stable’s good three-year-old trotters - Majestic Man, Springbank Lachie and Majestic Connies - are all due back in this week, though probably won’t be seen until Christmas or the New Year.
“They’re all coming back this week.
“I don’t like racing three-year-old trotters before Christmas; it’s a recipe for disaster if you want to tackle the good races later in the season.
