Young trainer and junior driver Jack Harrington has three chances today at Kaikoura on the first of a two day meeting.

Harrington who is bringing five horses up to Kaikoura has three good chances lining up today followed by two more tomorrow.

The first of his chances is in Race 2 with B D Son.

The three-year-old son of Majestic Son joined Harrington’s stable recently after being with Gavin Smith and can threaten with the right run and manners.

“B D Son with manners is a great chance. If he trots the whole way he is good enough to win,” Harrington said.

Harrington will take the reins on him as well as another good chance Baileys Knight in the junior race.

The four-year-old gelding is in great form at the moment having run second in his last two starts since a spell.

In the last race of the day Gavin Smith takes the drive on Harrington’s third runner, Shpeedy who has been mixing her form a bit lately however the stable are confident for a good run today.

“Outside of the gate might make it a bit tough but she is an each way chance,” Harrington said.

Monday will see two more horses from the Gold Star Racing barn step out on to the track at Kaikoura, both with fair chances as well.

Just One Good One will step out in his fifth race day appearance, third for Harrington, in race one on the nine race card. Gavin Smith will do the steering on the four-year-old gelding who has a good chance in a stable that is in form lately.

Hey Yo lines up in the Group 3 Majestic Son South Bay Trotters Cup with Robbie Holmes in the bike, in a tough field however with a bit of luck she is always a chance.

Fellow young trainer and junior driver Andrew Fitzgerald also has a couple of runners in for the first day of the Kaikoura double.

Zaksapatrol lines up in race 1 for amateur driver Blair Wilmott whilst Fitzgerald will take the reins on Black Art in the junior drivers race in race 5 on the card.

The weather has turned it on for the first day of the two day meeting here at Kaikoura and it could just be a day for the young guns of the industry.
