The fastest Australasian pacer of all time suffered an inglorious end to his Down Under career when finishing last in the WA Pacing Cup at Gloucester Park last night.

Have Faith In Me has been sold to North American interests and is due to fly to New York on February 3.

In his final start for longtime trainers Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen, the son of Bettor’s Delight went around third favourite in the A$450,000 feature but dropped out after attempting to move forward three-wide over the last lap.

Local hero Soho Tribeca ended a run of seven-straight Gary Hall Snr-trained WA Pacing Cup winners when outstaying Chicago Bull in the hands of Kim Prentice.

Have Faith In Me won over $1.5 Million for his owners, Auckland’s Dennis and Mark Dunford, and was the 2016 New Zealand Pacer of the Year and 2015 New Zealand 3YO of the Year.

He won seven Group 1s including the 1.47.5 record-run Miracle Mile, the Auckland Cup and New Zealand Derby.

But he was to go completely off the boil from the start of last season, winning just two of his final 20 starts in New Zealand and Australia, a period blighted by a mystery kidney ailment.
