The winner was too good in the hands of driver Chris Svanosio for trainer John Meade, covering plenty of ground on his way to a track-record win.

Temporale, in the hands of trainer Tony Herlihy, mounted a strong late finish for the runners-up prize after being hemmed up three back on the markers.

Hey Yo, currently trained by ex-Kiwi Sonya Smith for her kiwi owners including regular trainer Jack Harrington, flashed up the inside to run third at bolter's odds in the hands of Greg Sugars.

Harrington tweeted post race that he was "so proud" of Hey Yo and that is was "a career highlight" running third in the richest trotting race on the calendar as an owner.

The two other starters trained by New Zealanders, Speeding Spur and Daryl Boko, finished mid-field.

Speeding Spur settled near last from his second line draw and tried to mount a run off a three-wiide cart-up over the final half lap, but paddled in to eighth.
