Motu Top Mach was dominant when winning at Ascot Park on Saturday and for many of his connections it brought hope it was just the forerunner to even greater success at Cambridge next week.

His trainer, Graeme Anderson, shares the ownership of the Mach Three juvenile with Gerald Cayford, Ray Chalklin, Stuart Gillan, Tony Gow, Stephen Pulley and the Hunter Boys Syndicate.

Chalklin, Gillan's wife Pauline, Gow, Pulley and Anderson also share in the ownership of Eamon Maguire.

Prepared by Anderson to win last season's Southern Supremacy Stakes, Eamon Maguire has since won the Messenger from the All Stars stable and lines up for them again in the four-year-old Emerald next Saturday.

From the Live Or Die mare Top Tart, Motu Top Mach is a half-brother to Motu Moonbeam.

A daughter of Bettor's Delight, Motu Moonbeam won five from 25 in New Zealand before heading to the United States where she has fashioned an excellent record.

Among her many good performances was a second to Rocker Band in the Southern Belle Speed Series Final at Winton in 2016, clocking 1:55.6.

“She was the reason I bought this one,” Anderson said of the purchase of Motu Top Mach for $8000 at the premier sale in 2017.

“Mark Fuller broke him in, when he came to me he was gaited and bullet proof, it's made my job easy.”

On debut at Gore last week, Motu Top Mach came up against one better in the form of Artstanding, the half-bro to Lazarus.

Driven again today by Dexter Dunn and drawn the second line, he got a good run through to lead from the 1750. His four and three-quarter length win said the rest.

“He's got gate speed, was comfortable in front and with the half-blinds - Dexter said he concentrated better.

“It's been a while since I won with a two-year-old.” Anderson remarked.

“He'll grow some more but he's well rounded; we'll find something for him at Forbury Park during the winter.”

Invercargill Harness Club chair Mark Shirley and his wife Debbie enjoyed their best day, winning with both Cullens Avenue and Mighty Conqueror.

The Purvis family also had reason to celebrate with Charlotte winning a trot on Madison Jane before her bother Matt trained and drove Fun In The Dark to quit maidens later in the programme.
