Like the energizer bunny, John Morrison just keeps going

And the longer the harness season goes, the better it gets for the multi-talented horseman.

Morrison notched his first winning double in the sulky at last week’s Forbury Park meeting with Navajo Art and Selena Franco.

Driving horses is only one of four jobs Morrison is working at the moment.

He is also training a team of eight horses, running his farrier business and helping out at Spreydon Lodge.

Morrison previously worked for trainer Steven McRae and is back at the home of the Francos helping out on a short-term basis.

“It’s definitely busy at the moment.’’

‘’I’m just helping Steven McRae out every second day for a few hours in the mornings.

“I will be finishing up there in a month or so. He broke his ankle a month or more ago and I have been giving them a hand.’’

Morrison’s results in the sulky are paying off as he continues to put in the hard yards.

“It was sort of quiet there for a couple of months, but it has taken off again I have won a race every week for the last few weeks and just got my first double.’’

He looks a big chance of getting more success with Ruthless Kayla at Addington on Thursday night.

“She usually steps good.’’

‘’She is drawn one off 10 metres but she should be fine.’’

‘’She has been racing really well, so if we get a bit of luck she shouldn’t be too far away.’’

Morrison also drives the roughie Cheezel in race 3.

He heads to Forbury Park to try to seal his win in the Forbury Park Junior Drivers series with Clifton Tactic.

“It is almost like a drop back for her, I think, and the draw should suit her, so she shouldn’t be too far away.”

Morrison also drives the consistent Pat The Monkey, who will again try to crack a maiden win at Forbury Park.

Kiwi Bloke is among eight horses Morrison has in his stable.

He lines up in a 2000m standing start event at Rangiora on Sunday.

‘’He shouldn’t be too far away from winning a race, he is a good beginner so he should step alright.’’

The rest of Morrison’s team is made up of mostly younger horses that could hit the track next season, as well as newcomer Sky City King.
