HECTORYJAYJAY’s comeback could be over just run after it began.

The multiple Group 1 winner has been scratched from Melton tomorrow (Saturday) night and managing owner Matt McLellan confirmed the gelding had “an issue.”

“I’m away in England on holidays, but I can confirm there is an (injury) issue, but we don’t know the full extent as yet,” he said.

“Gavin (Lang, trainer-driver) has scratched him from this week’s race and we want to find out more about the issue before making any longer term decisions.”

Hectorjayjay was sidelined for almost a year with a suspensory ligament issue following his career-best Group 1 Blacks A Fake win at Albion Park last July.

He returned with a sparkling win at Kilmore last Saturday and many tipped him to become Australia’s top pacer.

Lang was always cautious when talking plans, noting the significance of any suspensory ligament injury.
