Airpark Flyer won the Riverton Cup on a near perfect day for trainer Trent Yesberg.

The Ohoka horseman took three horses to Sunday’s at Ascot Park and scored two wins and a second placing.

Missy Moo broke maidens in most spectacular fashion when winning by 23-and-three-quarter lengths.

The Rev ran second in Yesberg’s colours to Our Gracie in the meeting’s junior drivers’ trot.

Those results combined to give the trainer the first winning double of his short training career.

Missy Moo was in front by more than 10 lengths just 500m metres in to her 2200m victory.

A lap later, the five-year-old had extended her lead to 15 lengths.

At the finish she was even further in front, winning by an incredible 23 lengths.

Driver Matthew Williamson said the performance was not a case of him employing catch me if you can tactics.  

Missy Moo was simply happy to trot along in front of the field at her own speed.

"I never looked around until the home turn, I had no idea what had happened to the others.

“She was just bowling along under her own steam and I was just keeping an eye on what she was doing, trotting-wise.

“I just looked around on the bend and there was no one else with me.

Incredibly, Missy Moo could have won by further, Williamson said.

“I never pulled the hood off, she was doing it really easily at the finish.”

The reinsman again employed front-running tactics in Yesberg’s silks when winning the Riverton Cup with Airpark Flyer.

Punters saw the event as a two-horse race with Airpark Flyer going out as the $2.40 second favourite behind $2.20-shot, Franco Santino.

A good beginning from his 10m mark gave Airpark Flyer a massive early advantage over his main rival.

Franco Santino was forced to sit parked for the last 1100m of the 2700m event and he could not chase Airpark Flyer down.

“After such a good start, he got in front of his main rival and that was crucial,” Williamson said.

The victory was Airpark Flyer’s fourth of the season from just five starts.

His only defeat came when he was desperately unlucky in Cruz Bromac’s Methven Cup.

Yesterday’s victories took Yesberg to five training wins this term from just 19 starts.

All of his victories have come with Williamson in the sulky.

“Trent is doing a great job with the team and they are always turned out great and are ready to go good races.”
