Courtney to depart Tickford at end of season to explore new opportunities

James Courtney will leave Tickford Racing at the end of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship, the team has announced.

In a statement, Tickford said Courtney has “mutually agreed to explore new opportunities”, paving the way to a move elsewhere in 2024.

That is set to be Blanchard Racing Team, which will expand to two cars next season.

The announcement comes after Courtney revealed to media on the Gold Coast that an “exciting” announcement regarding his future will be announced this week.

“Thanks to Tickford Racing for providing the opportunity to race for the team and create some lifelong friendships,” Courtney said in a team release.

“It’s a family feel and was great to have the unwavering support of the Tickford fans and members, plus the entire crew whilst steering the number 5 Mustang”.

Tickford CEO and Team Principal Tim Edwards paid tribute to the veteran, saying Courtney was a bright spark for the team amid a run of outs.

“We are grateful for JC stepping into the team to drive, where he showcased his determination to compete at the front whilst keeping his sense of humour in what can be a brutal and unpredictable sport,” Edwards said.

“We wish him all the best with his future endeavours, where we’ll look to take it up to him and kick his a** on the track in 2024.”
