Ohceedee is showing the benefits of a patient approach and his connections are hoping their waiting tactics will be rewarded at Avondale on Friday.

Part-owner and trainer Steven Cole trialled the well-related youngster at the end of last winter before putting him aside to develop.

"He's a really smart two-year-old, but he had a few maturity issues early on and went shin sore," he said.

"He wasn't going to make it to the Karaka Million so we turned him out and let time work its wonders.

"He's done well since he's been back and his trial the other day was very good. He sat three wide on the speed and kicked on well to win. We're expecting good things of him."

Out of Assertiveobsession, a sister to the former champion Australian two-year-old Assertive Lad, the well-named Ohceedee will make his first race day appearance in the NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race at Avondale on Friday.

The colt will be ridden by Alysha Collett, who has handled the son of Power in both of his trials.

Meanwhile, Cole is pleased with the progress of Ohceedee's stakes placed stablemate Creative Genius.

"He's had a nice break and he's doing well," he said. "He's not quite mentally there yet, but he's an improving horse and the time out helped him."

Placed in the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial 3YO in the spring, Creative Genius's immediate programme will be determined by the weather.

"He'll go to the jump-outs after the next Pukekohe meeting and we'll probably give him a run over 1400 metres at Te Rapa," Cole said.

"We'll see what the tracks are like after that, he doesn't like it wet. He's going to be a really nice four-year-old when he is fully mature."
