Champion jumps jockey Shaun Fannin combined with premier jumps trainer Kevin Myers to win all three steeplechase races around New Zealand over the weekend.

Fannin ventured to Riverton to partner Crash Bandicoot to victory in the 111th running of the DT Kings Transport Great Western Steeplechase on Sunday. Just a day earlier the pair combined to land the Warren Storm Lifebrokers Waikato Steeplechase with The Big Opal and the Neil Treweek Steeplechase with Highly Likely on Saturday.

"Crash Bandicoot has always shown a lot of promise in his jumping role," Fannin said.

"He makes a lot of ground at his fences. That is probably the key to him. He's a bit of a quirky horse and all the credit must go to Jo Rathbone. She does everything with this horse and I think he's in for a good season with the way he won on Sunday."

Fannin said he was honoured to have won the iconic Great Western for the second year in a row in front of a big crowd.

"People come from miles to attend and it is not always the best weather but they're in their winter woollies and having a great time," Fannin said.

"There are some fantastic names on the honour board that have won the race previously and to have my name up there is a great privilege.

"It would have been a huge thrill for his Wanganui owners Dave MacNab and Simon Harrison."
