Andrew Campbell and Johnathan Parkes look likely to continue their winning association on Monday.

The Opaki trainer and the Wanganui jockey have enjoyed a hot run in recent weeks with Listed Opunake Cup success with Longchamp following consecutive wins with the unbeaten youngster Getty at Trentham and Te Rapa.

At the meeting moved from Otaki to Awapuni, they will combine with Waldorf who shapes as the horse to beat in the Listed Courtesy Ford Ryder Stakes.

“I’m pretty confident about his chances,” said Parkes, who rode race rivals Nuclear Fusion and Veuve Clicquot at their last starts. “He’s a smart horse and he should go very close.”

Waldorf has placed in both of his runs at Te Rapa following a break having finished third when resuming behind the talented Sacred Rebel and he filled the same position behind his barn mate Getty earlier this month.

Parkes has a tidy book of rides at Otaki with Lord Ernesto (Ekraar at Linwood Park Stud Handicap), Leeds (Fasttrack Insurance Handicap), Finn (Young Handicap) and Perfect Harmonee (Graham Sheldon Smellie Memorial) all in-form contenders.

“Lord Ernesto is going well and he’s a solid chance and Leeds goes really well in the wet,” he said.

The former was a winner three runs back and he has followed up with two placings while Leeds has placed in both of his last two appearances.

“Finn has needed a couple of runs to get him up to a distance that suits him and that was a strong win from Perfect Harmonee last time out after a long time off,” Parkes said.

“I galloped him on Tuesday morning he worked very well.”
