The highest rated horse of all time, Frankel leads an impressive class of freshman sires at Karaka 2016.

The first yearling by Frankel to be offered at auction in the Southern Hemisphere is catalogued in the Premier Sale at lot 445. The colt is out of Our Echezeaux (NZ) (Zabeel), Pencarrow Stud’s blueblood family which includes Darci Brahma, Burgundy, Romanee Conti and Ethereal. The colt will be one of many star attractions over the two days of the Premier Sale.

New Zealand Horse of the Year Ocean Park (Thorn Park) has the highest representation with 57 yearlings. Westbury Stud’s Reliable Man (Dalakhani) with 51 yearlings, is also well represented.

“New Zealand stallions are performing incredibly well at the moment. Add to that the strength of the first season sires on offer and I’m sure buyers are going to be most impressed with what they see at Karaka,” commented New Zealand Bloodstock’s Managing Director Andrew Seabrook.

Karaka will feature 17 freshman sires representing 312 yearlings across the Premier, Select and Festival Sales, including:

All Too Hard was a four-time Group 1 winner as a three-year-old. He has four yearlings in the Premier Sale, including:

  • A half-sister to Group 3 RA Lee Stakes winner Rhythm To Spare (NZ) (Pins) catalogued lot 87.
  • A half-brother to Group 3 Sires’ Produce winner Stirling Grove (Mossman) catalogued lot 338.

American shuttle sire Animal Kingdom, won two of the world's most iconic races, the Group 1 Kentucky Derby and the Group 1 Meydan Dubai World Cup. He has one yearling in the Premier Sale.

  • A half-sister to Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes winner Toydini (Bernardini) catalogued lot 332.

With only one Southern Hemisphere crop, Azamour is a four-time European Group 1 winner and the sire of three Group 1 winners in the Northern Hemisphere. He has 24 yearlings catalogued including:

  • A half-brother to Group 1 Sydney Cup winner Honor Babe (Honor Grades) catalogued lot 319.

A three-quarter brother to 10-time Group 1 winner Frankel, is Bullet Train, a Group 3 winner himself. Bradbury Park offers one yearling by him:

  •  A half-brother to Australian stakes performer Inauguration (Authorized) catalogued lot 711.

The impeccably bred Burgundy is a son of Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice out of Group 1 Australasian Oaks winner Grand Echezeaux, making him a three-quarter-brother to successful sire Darci Brahma. He has 20 yearlings entered at Karaka 2016 including:

  • A half-brother to Group 1 Australian Oaks and Group 1 Victorian Oaks winner Serenade Rose (Stravinsky) catalogued lot 41.
  • A half-sister to Group 1 TJ Smith winner Linky Dink (NZ) (Keeper) catalogued lot 892.

Coolmore Stud’s shuttle stallion Excelebration was a three-time Group 1 winner over 1600m and rated third best miler in the world in 2011.  He has two yearlings catalogued:

  • A filly out of Desert Fairy (Desert Prince) catalogued lot 252.
  • A colt out of Cousin Katerina (NZ) (Stravinsky) catalogued lot 810.

Mapperley Stud’s He’s Remarkable is a stakes winning son of Champion Sire Pentire. He has 20 yearlings catalogued at Karaka 2016 including:

  • A half-brother to Group 2 Wakefield Challenge winner Showboy (NZ) (Showcasing) catalogued lot 63.

The son of Champion Sire Fastnet Rock, Highly Recommended was a Group 2 winner at three. He has 17 yearlings catalogued at Karaka 2016 including:

  • A half-brother to Group 3 winner Timy Tyler (NZ) (No Excuse Needed) catalogued lot 572.

A son of proven sire of sires Encosta de Lago, Niagara  beat a field of Group 1 winners with his victory in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes. Niagara has 16 yearlings entered at Karaka 2016 including:

  • A colt out of Listed Counties Bowl winner Italian Princess (NZ) (Bertolini) catalogued lot 934.

New Zealand Horse of the Year Ocean Park won five Group 1 races on both sides of the Tasman including the Group 1 Cox Plate. Ocean Park has 57 yearlings entered at Karaka 2016 including:

  • A filly out of Group 1 Easter Handicap winner Calveen (NZ) (Canny Lad) catalogued lot 213.
  • A colt out of Group 1 Salinger Stakes winner Glamour Puss (NZ) (Tale of the Cat) catalogued lot 306.

Brilliant racehorse Pierro won five Group 1 races in Australia as a two and three-year-old, including the Group 1 Golden Slipper and the Australian two-year-old Triple Crown. He has 11 yearlings catalogued in the Premier Sale and one in the Select Sale including:

  • A colt out of Group 1 NZ Oaks and Group 1 Mudgway Stakes winner Keep The Peace (NZ) (Keeper) catalogued lot 345.
  • A filly out of Group 3 Vanity Stakes winner Musidora (Rock of Gibraltar) catalogued lot 426.

A Group 1 winner at two, Power won the Group 1 Curragh National Stakes as a juvenile before winning the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas as a three-year-old. He has 24 yearlings catalogued at Karaka 2016 including:

  • A half-brother to the dam of Champion Australian Sprinter Lankan Rupee (Redoute’s Choice) catalogued lot 172.
  • A half-sister to Group 1 Wakefield Stakes winner Pussy Willow (NZ) (O’Reilly) catalogued lot 438.

Reliable Man was a Group 1 winner in both hemispheres, winning the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes in Australia and the Group 1 French Derby. He has 51 yearlings catalogued across the three Sales including:

  • A filly out of Group 1 NZ Oaks winner Artistic (NZ) (Darci Brahma) catalogued lot 179.
  • A half-sister to Group 1 NZ Stakes and Group 1 Waikato International winner Maco’reilly (NZ) (O’Reilly) catalogued lot 265.

A son of Champion Sire Fastnet Rock, Rock ‘n’ Pop won the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas as a three-year-old. Standing at Waikato Stud, he has 35 yearlings catalogued at Karaka 2016 including:

  • A half-sister to Listed Bunbury Cup winner Classique Ivory (NZ) (Senor Pete) catalogued lot 542.
  • A half-sister to Listed Champagne Stakes winner Caduceus (NZ) (Lucky Unicorn) catalogued lot 884.

Dual Singapore Horse of the Year Super Easy won 15 races, including a record 12 consecutive races and three at Singapore-Group 1 level. He has 24 yearlings catalogued across all three Sales including:

  • A colt out of a half-sister to Singapore stakes winner Rising Empire (Dehere) catalogued at lot 66.
  • A half-brother to Group 3 Launceston Cup winner Dancing Daggers (NZ) (Daggers Drawn) catalogued lot 821.

Group 1 winning son of Champion Sire Fastnet Rock, Your Song was a dominant five-length winner of the Group 1 BTC Cup. He has two yearlings entered at Karaka 2016 including:

  • A half-brother to Group 2 Silver Slipper winner Amelia’s Dream (Redoute’s Choice) catalogued lot 65.
