Trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman hope the good start with the first crop of Pluck continues, after Pluck That impressively won the $8,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series (2YO) over 1100 metres at Te Rapa on Saturday.

The Cambridge trainers have already been successful with the American-bred stallion representatives Gasoline and Mongolian Wolf recently.

Pluck That finished fourth on debut in the Listed Castletown Stakes behind the unbeaten Volpe Veloce, then followed up with a gutsy maiden victory at Te Teko last month.

Ridden by Matt Cameron, Pluck That was quick out of the gates from the outside barrier to sit outside Irish Mist (S.Spratt). The race looked between the pair until Cameron asked his gelding to lengthen stride halfway down the straight and he quickly put four-and-a-half lengths on them.

Irish Mist fought on well to finish second and Don't Be Cheeky (R.Elliot) battled on three-quarters of a length back in third. The winning time was 1min 06.90 sec for the 1100m.

"He was a bit unlucky first time out. We'll consider a start in the Listed Courtesy Ford Ryder Stakes at Otaki in a fortnight now," said Baker.

Co-trainer Andrew Forsman purchased the son of Pluck at last year's NZB Ready to Run Sale for $20,000.

Pluck That is raced by D Piper, B Christopher, C Bryant, J Fox, J Mitchell, True Callas Ltd, D & B Kneebone, K Corby & The Karl Syndicate

Saturday's win was his second from three starts and has won just short of $20,000 in prizemoney.

Vinery Stud based stallion Pluck was the winner of the Group One Breeders Juvenile Turf at Churchilll Downs among his three wins from 7 starts.
