Last start winner Ultimata backed up brilliantly to score the $22,000 Fairview Motors 1600 at Te Rapa.

Ultimata dead-heated last week at Te Teko to pick up a Pearl Series bonus, but on Saturday the daughter of Zabeel won with ease.

Jumping from the outside barrier, rider Michael Coleman settled Ultimata at the rear of the field and swooped wide around the field, as was the pattern for racing on the day. Ultimata challenged for the leaders half-way down the straight taking the lead with 150m to go and proved too strong for the opposition to score by a length and one-quarter over Bold Bachelor (K.McCulloch) with a head back to No Need (V.Gatu) in third place. The winning time was 1min 27.16.

The four-year-old Ultimata has now won two from 9 starts and earned over $20,000 in prizemoney.

Ultimata is trained by Ken and Bev Kelso at Matamata.

Bred and raced by M K Glenn, Mrs E & M H Oram, Ultimata  is out of the nine-race winner and Group One winning mare MarquiseMarquise won the Group 1 Tesio Stakes, Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes and the Group 2 Sedgwick . Marquise is out of Eight Carat.
