Central Districts visitor Leeds gave his trainer Mike Breslin some comfort with his narrow win in the $25,000 Garrad's Horse And Hound 1400 (Rating 85) on Saturday.

Awapuni trainer Breslin was awaiting an operation on race-day, but seeing his I Am Invincible gelding win narrowly was just what the doctor ordered.

Ridden by Shaun McKay, Leeds settled at the back of the field, then improved wide on the turn, and finished strongly to nab Zorrali (Z.Moki) by a nose with the favourite Bishopbriggs (L.Allpress) three-and-a-half lengths back in third. The winning time was 1min 26.76secs.

Breslin has plans to head to the Winter Cup at Riccarton but a run beforehand has yet to be confirmed.

"We may head to the Whyte Handicap at Trentham or maybe find something down south," said part-owner and Wellfield Lodge Manager Peter Didham.

"Mike and I bought him at the Sydney Classic Sale, and we got some partners in. Peter Gillespie, Mike Morton and John Heale," Didham said.

It was a good day for John Heale, who also shares partnership with the winner in the last race at Te Rapa, with Bee Tee Junior.

The Australian-bred won the Listed Castletown Stakes as a juvenile - on his third start and has now won five and placed six occasions from 21 starts and earned just short of $100,000.

Although all of Leeds five wins have been on rain effected footing, the Slow8 conditions is more to Leeds favouring with 2 wins and two placings in 4 starts in slow going.
