Two promising youngsters, both producing winning performances in the first two races at Tauranga on Saturday look set to clash with dual Group One winner Xtravagant in the Group 3 $70,000 Inglis Sales Cambridge Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Te Rapa on 30 April.

Barnaby backed up from his impressive debut victory at Matamata last month to make it two from two in the first race, the Rating 65 1200m at Tauranga. Trainer Jacob McKay has big plans for the gifted son of Shocking and they may include the Cambridge Breeders' Stakes .

"I know it will be a very good field and I'm trying not to get too excited, but a race like that is something we'll at least consider," said McKay.

In the following event, the Tim and Margaret Carter trained three-year-old Battle Time broke maiden ranks beating talented duo Windborne and Sydney's Shot.

The Battle Paint colt has a string of minor placings in stakes races beaten by high class performers. Runner-up to Xtravagant in the Group 1 Two Thousand Guineas last start, a third to Amarula in the Group 2 Hawke's Bay Guineas. As a two-year-old, finished runner up to Dal Cielo in the Group 1 Diamond Stakes, a close third to Rocanto in the Listed Matamata Slipper and a fourth placing to Marky Mark in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes.

Trainers Tim and Margaret Carter have taken their time with their charge after surgery for a bone chip on his knee early in his career. "He took a fair bit of time to get over that operation and was in his box for a number of weeks. We didn't really get him back until a couple of months ago and have taken him along very slowly so far," Carter said.

The Cambridge Breeders' Stakes on Cambridge Jockey Club day, also features the Group 2 $100,000 Travis Stakes (2000m).
