Champion jockey Opie Bosson has landed in Hong Kong and is ready to compete against the finest jockeys from around the world as he starts his 21-meeting stint.

Bosson starts his short term contract, with four confirmed mounts at Sha Tin's feature meeting on Sunday. The meeting features the NZ$3.6 million Audemars Piguet QE II Cup.

The Kiwi hoop faces many challenges including a total of 28 international jockeys from around the world available on his debut, including the Brazilian 'Magic Man' Joao Moreira; but the biggest challenge will come from his weight limitations. The weight system will restrict chances for the heavyweight kiwi jockey.

Moreira has an extraordinary strike rate of winning more than one race in every five races this season getting the plum rides, meanwhile Bosson will be picking up the scraps during his three month stint at the end of the Hong Kong season known as the grave yard shift.

The 35 year-old has more than 1,500 wins to his name including two champion jockey titles, and close to 50 Group One victories. Bosson hopes to make a big enough impression to earn himself a full-time riding contract in Hong Kong.

"Realistically, eight wins would be a good result, and if things are going well I would really like to stay here," Bosson said at Tuesday's meet the press gathering at Sha Tin. "I rode against Joao in Singapore the whole time I was there and he is an absolute superstar and he did the same thing there - so I know what I am up against. I'm here to ride as many winners as I can; I know it's the end of the season and that's going to make it difficult, but I will work hard. I probably liked the lifestyle back there in New Zealand and that kept me there, but I haven't got many years left in my career so I thought I would try something different. I'm really excited about the opportunity to come here," he said.
