It’s official — there’s more than $10 million worth of talent on the NRL’s open market free to negotiate with rival clubs for the 2023 season.

Some of the biggest names in the game including Brandon Smith, Viliame Kikau, Joseph Manu, Api Koroisau, Reed Mahoney, Clint Gutherson and Junior Paulo are all free to sign with rival clubs if they choose.

Like the stampede at the running of the bulls in Spain, player agents will be busy working the phones to field the best offers for their clients.

Much of the negotiating will have already been done behind-the-scenes over the last couple of months but from today clubs are free to table contracts with a view to bolstering their rosters.

Can the Roosters orchestrate one of their best-ever coups and convince Melbourne Storm hooker Brandon Smith to switch to Moore Park in 2023?

Can the Panthers keep the nucleus of their premiership-winning spine together and retain Api Koroisau or will a rival club produce an offer the NSW Origin player can’t refuse?

South Sydney have landed a major early coup by announcing superstar five-eighth Cody Walker has extended for an additional season until the end of 2023.

Walker, 31, has collected back-to-back George Piggins medals as South Sydney’s best and fairest player and been rewarded for helping pilot the Rabbitohs into this year’s grand final.

It’s a major play from Souths especially given captain Adam Reynolds has departed the club to join the Brisbane Broncos.
