Raiders forced to get Covid-19 test, isolate after staff member returns positive result

The Raiders’ playing group and coaching staff have been forced to get a Covid-19 test and enter isolation after a member of the club’s football staff tested positive.

The club confirmed the news via a statement on Thursday.

“The Canberra Raiders can confirm a member of the club’s football staff has tested positive for COVID-19,” the statement read.

“As a result, all players and football staff have been directed to undertake a COVID test and isolate. The club is following NRL protocols and is awaiting further direction from ACT Health.

“The club will provide any further updates once this process has been finalised.”

The playing group and staff were ordered to get tested following an outbreak at a Newcastle nightclub last week.

Earlier, over 70 players and staff, including NRL superstars Nathan Cleary and Tom Trbojevic, were also forced into isolation for seven days

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo revealed on Wednesday that the governing body will tighten the biosecurity protocols once we get closer to start of the 2022 season.

“Once we’re in-season and we get into the formal pre-season in the new year, we’ll have a different set of protocols working,” he told 2GB Radio.
