Napa sent off in Super League debut for brutal high shot

Former NRL prop Dylan Napa had a Super League debut to forget after being sent off for a brutal high shot late in the second half.

Napa signed with French club Catalans Dragons in November on a two-year deal after the Bulldogs decided not to offer him a new contract.

The 29-year-old had a reputation for high shots during his nine seasons in the NRL and it seems he won’t be shaking that reputation any time soon.

As if there wasn’t already enough spice in the grand final rematch between Catalans and reigning premiers St Helens, Napa hit St Helens centre Mark Percival high with nine minutes left on the clock.

The former Queensland Origin prop was shown a red card and is now facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines.

“He’s gone for this, clear contact with the head,” former Great Britain prop Barrie McDermott said in commentary.

“He’s going to see the judiciary panel quite a number of times this year. He’s got to get that right.

“Direct contact with the head, you just can’t do it.”

Commentator Bill Arthur added: “it’s worse every time you see it.”
