The Bulldogs have suffered a double blow with Jack Hetherington to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery and Raymond Faitala-Mariner suffering a setback in his recovery from a foot injury.
Hetherington suffered the injury in Sunday’s loss to Manly. It was hoped that it was just a minor tear, however Bulldogs’ general manager of football, Phil Gould, confirmed that the hard-hitting forward will require surgery.
“Not good news for Jack Hetherington. He has a bony bankart fracture of the glenoid,” Gould tweeted.
“However, it caused significant damage on the way out. Will require surgery.”
Gould also revealed that it will be “some time yet” before Faitala-Mariner returned.
Faitala-Mariner has not played since Round 2 last season after suffering a foot fracture that required surgery. He was initially meant to miss 16-20 weeks and return in time for the final games of the season but revealed to foxsports.com.au last month that his recovery time was doubled after an oversight by a surgeon.
Meanwhile, Broncos second-rower will miss Round 4 after suffering rib cartilage damage, while Brendan Piakura has suffered a grade two hamstring tear and will miss six weeks.
Tigers prop Stefano Utoikamanu suffered a high ankle sprain and will miss six to eight weeks.
