Completely removed himself from getting tackled': Dufty called out over cardinal NRL sin

Canterbury Bulldogs fullback Matt Dufty had a night to forget against the Panthers, with one moment in particular drawing criticism from former NRL star Michael Ennis.

Dufty had the chance to put himself in the perfect position to take an inside ball from Jackson and crash through the defensive line late in the first half, but he appeared to look up and opted against it.

His hesitation proved costly as the Panthers scored soon after with Ennis calling out the No.1 on Fox League commentary for failing to commit.

“Matt Dufty, that is really poor,” Ennis said.

“He just did not commit for Josh Jackson then.

“Jackson tremendously came onto the ball perfect timing over the advantage line and wasted Dufty back on the inside and he just hesitated away from the collision there.

“He just completely removed himself from getting tackled there and let Josh Jackson down.”

Moments after Dufty’s blunder Panthers backrower Liam Martin crossed the line, nudging the Panthers’ lead to 20-6 at halftime.

“Watch Matt Dufty here ... it’s his job,” Ennis said as a replay of the incident was shown after the Panthers try.

“We’ve seen it with Papenhuyzen, and we’ve seen it with Slater.

“Push into that space ... he let him down there.”

Dufty, off contract at season’s end after signing a one-year deal with the Bulldogs, produced arguably the worst game of his career as he made four errors and struggled for involvement with just 41 run metres from five runs.
