Roosters' nervous wait as NRL seeks update on Radley investigation after WC incident

The NRL is still awaiting more information regarding Victor Radley’s run-in with Ireland international James Bentley during the Rugby League World Cup.

News Corp reports the NRL Integrity Unit got in touch with England’s rugby league governing body on Wednesday requesting an update on its inquiries but is yet to hear back.

Radley, who represented England at the World Cup, was embroiled in an incident with Bentley at a Manchester hotel following England’s semi-final loss to Samoa.

England’s governing body told foxsports.com.au after the incident that they were “looking into the alleged incident” but almost three weeks have passed and Radley’s NRL club, the Roosters are still awaiting an outcome.

A suspension would wipe Radley out of the Roosters’ Round 1 clash with NRL newcomers, the Dolphins in a game that will pay homage to a legend of both clubs — Arthur Beetson.

But it’s looking increasingly unlikely the star lock will be sanctioned given there was reportedly no official complaint or police report made.

News Corp claims the Roosters are not upset with Radley over the incident as he was defending English coach Shaun Wane and multiple reports have stated that Bentley instigated it.

But the same can’t be said about other NRL clubs with News Corp revealing there’s mixed opinions over whether the 24-year-old should be sanctioned.

Some believe he shouldn’t be punished as he didn’t start the run-in.

But others believe if it were to happen during an NRL season he would be sanctioned with an example being Brisbane’s Payne Haas and Albert Kelly copping a ban and fine for a minor scuffle at a hotel earlier this year.
