Broncos star set for Dolphins switch as Bennett's team takes shape: NRL Transfer Whispers

The Dolphins are set to snare another Broncos star with Tesi Niu expected to join Wayne Bennett at Redcliff in the coming week.

The Courier Mail reports Niu will formally request a release this week and sign a multi-year deal with their Queensland rivals.

Niu was given permission to negotiate with rival clubs despite being contracted with the Broncos until the end of the 2023 season.

He will become the third Broncos player to join the NRL’s 17th team alongside Jamayne Isaako and Brenko Lee.

Niu had found himself down the pecking order at the Broncos following Reece Walsh move back to Red Hill and Herbie Farnworth making his fullback ambitions known to the club.

Dolphins CEO Terry Reader confirmed the club’s interest in the 21-year-old.

“Tesi was given permission to talk to other clubs so we’ll see what happens,” he told the Courier Mail.

“We’ve still got spots to fill and there’s quality players out there.

“There’s a lot of time before we run out on that field in March and plenty to happen in the player market.

“History says January is the biggest month for player movement and I’m sure this year will be no different.”

The Dolphins still have five spots left on the roster for 2023.

NRL CLUBS READY TO POUNCE ON ENGLAND STAR

NRL clubs are reportedly monitoring England World Cup forward Joe Batchelor.

Wide World of Sports reports the 28-year-old, who made his international debut at the World Cup in 2022, has hired an Australian agent with a view to heading down under in 2024.

Batchelor is contracted until 2025 with St Helens.
