Battered Roosters’ brutal Radley blow; flyer returns in Eels reshuffle: Late Mail

The Roosters have confirmed Victor Radley will sit out of their clash against the Warriors on Saturday afternoon.

Eels flyer Bailey Simonsson will return from a shoulder injury, with Sean Russell making way on the wing for their clash with the Sharks.

Meanwhile, Wayne Bennett will hand a debut to young gun Mason Teague after poaching the former Panthers prodigy.

Teague, a former SG Ball captain at the Panthers, looked set to stay at the NRL premiers before Bennett stepped in.

Elsewhere Titans playmaker Kieran Foran, could make a shock recovery from a knee injury, while Talatau Amone has been named in the Dragons’ extended squad after he was cleared to return to play.

Meanwhile, the Roosters confirmed Victor Radley has been ruled out after a nasty head knock in Round 1 with Naufahu Whyte slotting into lock. Ben Thomas has been called into the starting 17 as replacement.

The lock forward, who captained the Panthers SG Ball side, will come off the bench in place of Ray Stone who suffered a knee injury. Teague was highly valued by the Panthers but Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett pulled off a signing coup. “I only spoke to Wayne once,” Teague said. “Leading up to that, I wasn’t too sure if I wanted to make the commitment to come here. Late mail: Dragons playmaker Talatau Amone won’t return to the starting side this round according to The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio. “The suggestion is he won’t play on Sunday, however he has been included in the 21-man squad,” Riccio said. “Of all their young guns coming through, he’s the one they are resting their hopes on.” However, NRL360 co-host Paul Kent believes “there’s every chance he plays”. Amone was cleared to play on Tuesday after confirmation he was no longer subject to the NRL’s no-fault stand-down policy following an alleged hammer attack.

Late mail: Kieran Foran could make a miracle recovery from his knee injury to take the field against the Dragons, according to The Daily Telegraph. “The staff are getting him ready to play on Sunday and he’s looking good to go,” Sam Verrills told the Telegraph of Foran. Titans coach Justin Holbrook oridinally said Foran will not play against the Dragons and named a surprise replacement to wear the No.6. Jayden Campbell will slot into five-eighth according to Holbrook. “He’s trained everywhere during pre-season and he defends really well (Jayden Campbell),” Holbrook said on SEN1170. “I’m comfortable for him to play six.” Campbell has been named in the No.14 jersey, meaning Chris Randall is the likely man to slot into the utility role.
