EXCLUSIVE: Robbo wields axe in huge selection call as Roosters half sent to reserve grade

The Sydney Roosters have axed young gun halfback Sam Walker after the Tricolours club has suffered back-to-back losses.

Walker, 20 is regarded as one of the best emerging players in the NRL with the Roosters heavily-invested in developing the no.7.

But after suffering back-to-back losses at the hands of the Melbourne Storm and Cronulla Sharks, Roosters coach Trent Robinson has opted to send Walker back to the NSW Cup.

Kiwi superstar Joey Manu is expected to be named at five-eighth for the Roosters Anzac Day showdown with St George Illawarra.

Walker has played 52 NRL games for the Roosters at the age of 20 with the club often referencing how they’ve “held a mirror up” in terms of educating the highly-regarded playmaker.

The developing no.7 has played 21 NRL games for the Roosters in 2021, 25 games in 2022 and six games this season.

Kiwi Test star Manu has previously played at five-eighth for the Roosters where he’s always delivered.

More to come.
