‘Massive swing: Bunker takes away Roosters try in controversial fashion

The Roosters have had a try overturned in controversial circumstances by the Bunker in their ANZAC Day clash against the Dragons.

The Tricolours crossed through Egan Butcher after some lovely lead-up work from Joseph Suaalii, but not before Brandon Smith passed off the ground whilst being tackled.

Originally awarded a try, the Bunker intervened and took the four points off the board, citing Zac Lomax had completed the tackle on Smith before the hooker had got the ball away.

Fox League’s Andrew Voss said that while the right call had ultimately been made, it shouldn’t have been a decision that could be overturned.

“Well this is where I don’t think the Bunker can make a call,” Voss said.

“If the referee hasn’t called held, I don’t think the Bunker can overturn the on field referee.

“It’s referee Adam Gee’s job to call held.”

The no-try call resulted in a 12 point turnaround as the Dragons marched down the field and scored two sets later to bridge the gap to eight points.

“Massive swing. Dragons starring down a 26-6 scoreline and it’s now 20-12,” Greg Alexander said.

“They make the most of the luck that’s come their way.”
