The Blues have suffered a big blow in their bid to avoid a sweep, with Souths star Latrell Mitchell ruled out until Round 21 at the earliest with a calf injury.
Zac Bailey reported Souths coach Jason Demetriou ruled Mitchell out until Round 21 after not responding well to rehab on his injured calf.
The Manly Sea Eagles have confirmed the news fans were fearing most — superstar fullback Tom Trbojevic will miss the rest of the season.
Trbojevic suffered a pectoral injury in the opening three minutes of Origin II on Wednesday.
He underwent scans on Thursday which confirmed his pectoral was torn and he then met with a specialist on Friday.
The club released a statement on Friday afternoon confirming the 26-year-old will undergo surgery and miss the rest of the season.
“Manly Warrringah Sea Eagles fullback Tom Trbojevic has today been ruled out of the 2023 Telstra Premiership season,” the statement read.
“The 26-year-old will undergo surgery on Tuesday for a torn pectoral injury after seeing a specialist this morning.”
