‘Falling like nine pins!': Star Swan injured after brutal act sparks Blues brawl

Sydney veteran Josh Kennedy has limped off the ground and tensions have flared in a brutal five-minute passage of play at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.

With four minutes remaining in the final term, Carlton defender Sam Docherty was collected by Kennedy as he took a mark in the backhalf, which quickly sent players from both sides into remonstrate with their opponents.

As Docherty remained on his haunches, Kennedy grabbed at his right hamstring.

Docherty came from the ground with a blood rule, while Kennedy limped off with the assistance of trainers before being immediately subbed out of the game.

It was the start of a brutal sequence of play, with Luke Parker appearing to tweak his ankle and hobbling for the remainder of the term.

Paddy McCartin was left sprawled on the ground after Corey Durdin’s knee collided with McCartin’s back region and then Nick Blakey limped off the ground with a physio after a bruising marking contest involving Patrick Cripps.

“They are falling like nine pins here at the moment,” Brian Taylor said on Channel 7.

Docherty stayed off the ground for the remainder of the quarter, which was extraordinary in its own right given the Blues kicked nine goals to three in the term.

“Chaos on the half forward flank with that injury and that incident involving the star players in Docherty and Kennedy,” Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph told Fox Footy.

“Potential suspension for Kennedy, that will probably be immaterial given just the extent of that right hamstring injury.

“Sydney will be worried for the potential for a tendon there. You could lip read his concern, he knew that he was in significant strife there.”
