Blues superstar makes history, joins Demons gun as cover stars of new AFL video game

Melbourne superstar Christian Petracca and Carlton AFLW gun Darcy Vescio have been unveiled as the cover stars of the newest AFL video game.

Petracca and Vescio will be seen in stores across the country with AFL 23 scheduled to release on April 13 across on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC. The game is listed for $79.

Vescio is the first AFLW player to feature on the cover. The dual All-Australian and two-time AFLW leading goalkicker is one of the league’s marquee players having starred for Carlton since the very first game of the league’s existence.

Vescio’s club-mate Patrick Cripps was on the cover of the last footy video game, AFL Evolution 2.

AFL 23 is the first instalment in some time created by Big Ant Studios, whose cricket games have been well-received, and were last in the footy game space when they created AFL Live back in 2011.

AFL 23 features over 1200 players across AFL and AFLW and promises “photo-realistic licenses, in depth skills and unique player traits powered by Champion Data”.

Listed features include a Management Career mode where you will oversee player development and drafting, along with creation tools to make your own clubs, players and stadiums and share them online.

Four-player local co-op and online play featuring crossplay will also be available.
