GEELONG has regained four-time All-Australian Tom Stewart for Sunday’s match against Gold Coast but opted to manage two other premiership players.

Stewart returns to the line-up after making a quicker-than-expected recovery from the knee injury he suffered in Round 1.

Fellow defender Jake Kolodjashnij was named in the extended squad on Thursday night, but the Cats on Friday listed him as as an emergency. The backman is working his way back from a concussion suffered during the pre-season.

Geelong has also opted to ‘manage’ Gary Rohan and Rhys Stanley, meaning veteran ruck Jon Ceglar comes into the side for just his fourth game in a Cats jumper.

GOLD COAST has dropped ex-Cat Charlie Constable, who has been listed as an emergency alongside Mabior Chol. Wil Powell returns for the Suns.

MELBOURNE has dropped Tom McDonald for Sunday’s clash against Sydney.

The Dees had earlier confirmed Jacob Van Rooyen would make his debut and dual All-Australian Setven May would return, while Adam Tomlinson would be omitted and James Harmes would miss due to personal reasons.

But McDonald has been named as an emergency for the match against SYDNEY, which has omitted Hayden McLean at the expense of the returning Lance Franklin.

FREMANTLE superstar Nat Fyfe will miss Sunday’s derby due to plantar fasciitis, with second-round draft pick Matt Johnson to make his debut as the sub.

But the Dockers made a statement at selection, dropping Will Brodie despite his strong 2022 campaign.

WEST COAST is unchanged.

PORT ADELAIDE coach Ken Hinkley has made a Showdown selection statement, with star forwards Mitch Georgiades and Orazio Fantasia both dropped.

While Fantasia has been named as an emegency for Saturday night’s crunch clash at the Adelaide Oval — and, therefore, could be named sub — Georgiades hasn’t been named in Port Adelaide’s squad.

Georgiades and Fantasia join Jase Burgoyne (omitted) and Ryan Burton (suspended) on Port Adelaide’s ‘outs’ list. Riley Bonner, Tom Clurey and Jeremy Finlayson return for the Power.

ADELAIDE will be without star forward Darcy Fogarty after he failed to get up from his knee injury.

Interestingly, the Crows have also dropped fellow forward Elliott Himmelberg for the match.

Lachlan Gollant comes into the side after promising form in SANFL practice matches, while Jordon Butts returns to bring extra height and size to the Crows’ backline.

There’s bittersweet news for CARLTON, with George Hewett returning from a hand injury but fellow inside midfielder Matthew Kennedy ruled out with his own injury for the clash against the GIANTS, who welcome back star duo Josh Kelly and Lachie Whitfield but haven’t named No.1 pick Aaron Cadman in the starting 22.

ESSENDON’S forward line has received a major boost, with Jake Stringer and Sam Weideman returning to face St Kilda.

RICHMOND has included Hugo Ralphsmith, Judson Clarke and Jack Ross for Friday night’s blockbuster against Collingwood. The Tigers are depleted, with Nathan Broad (Suspension), Jacob Hopper (Injured), Jayden Short (Injured) and Dustin Martin (Managed) all out.

COLLINGWOOD has named Ash Johnson to replace the injured Mason Cox after the former kicked four goals in the VFL last weekend.

WESTERN BULLDOGS coach Luke Beveridge swung the axe with four changes, three of them omissions, for Thursday night’s crunch clash with Brisbane.

Under growing pressure at 0-2, Beveridge has dropped father-son young gun Sam Darcy plus Rhylee West and Toby McLean for the meeting with the Lions. As confirmed earlier this week Arthur Jones will make his AFL debut with Adam Treloar, Rory Lobb and Jason Johannisen providing some well-credentialed ins for the Dogs. Taylor Duryea will miss through illness.

Meanwhile BRISBANE made two changes with Keidean Coleman replacing the injured Daniel Rich in defence, while last week’s substitute Deven Robertson is out of the squad entirely.
