Get Ahead goes clear for Cecil Frail success

It was doubles all round for Clive Cox and Richard Kingscote at Haydock on Friday with Get Ahead producing a smart display to land the Cecil Frail Stakes

The versatile daughter of Showcasing finished sixth in the Group 3 Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on her last start and made no mistake back at Listed level by gaining a first-stakes success.

Held up towards the rear of the field under Richard Kingscote she travelled powerfully and could be spotted going best from some way out. The gaps opened up approaching the two-furlong pole and she showed a smart turn of foot to put the race to bed in a matter of strides before being pushed out under hands and heels for a very snug one-and-a-quarter-length victory.

A step back up in class will likely be on the agenda although connections were yet to confirm any future plans.

Further juvenile success for Karl Burke as Too Darn Hot gets off the mark

Karl Burke's two-year-old team could not be in any better form at present and just a day after unveiling Norfolk Stakes favourite Elite Status, the Middleham-based trainer unleashed another potential star in the shape Fallen Angel (9/4 fav)

The striking homebred grey always looked to be travelling well within herself for much of the 7f contest and really hit the line strongly once switched out from in behind by jockey Clifford Lee. There was plenty of promise from Andrew Balding's newcomer, Lady Of Leisure, who finished a length-and-three-quarters behind back in second.

Speaking with Racing TV, trainer Karl Burke said: "She'll come on a bundle for it. We haven't pushed any buttons that's the first time she's galloped away from home. Well, she's out of a Royal Ascot winner and an Albany winner. She's a homebred from Branton Court and there's lot to look forward to.

When asked about taking on the boys in the Chesham at Royal Ascot, the trainer added: "I don't know. No firm plans for her I'll have a chat with Steve and Jo [Clipper Logistics] and go from there."

"That was lovely though. Clifford [Lee] gave her a lovely ride. Got her into a nice rhythm and she's learnt a lot there, she's had to switch and come through horses. She's a nice filly with a good mind. Lot's to look forward to."

It was a first success for first-season sire Too Darn Hot with the 2018 Champion Two-Year-Old and Dalham Hall Stud resident standing at £40,000 for his debut season.
