Irish Derby under consideration for Arrest

The Group 1 Irish Derby at the Curragh is shaping into an exciting rematch between the main protagonists from the Epsom Classic after Juddmonte suggested Arrest could head to Ireland.

An impressive six-and-a-half length winner of the Group 3 Chester Vase in early May, it was hoped Arrest could provide the retiring Frankie Dettori with a fairytale final success in the Epsom Derby.

Concerns prior to the race regarding the ground conditions and the track were proven to be justified, with the colt becoming unbalanced two furlongs out and throwing a shoe.

He faded to finish tenth of fourteen, twelve-and-a-half-lengths behind the winner Auguste Rodin.

If Arrest goes to the Irish Derby on the 2nd of July, he is likely to meet the first three home in the Epsom Classic: Auguste Rodin, King Of Steel and White Birch.

Juddmonte's racing manager Barry Mahon said, "I met John and Thady in France on Sunday and they said he was fine and I was talking to them last night and they said he came out of it in good shape.

"We'll see how he does in the next couple of weeks and give the Curragh some consideration. I think the track would suit him, as I think John said pre-Epsom, that the Curragh would suit him better being a more conventional track.

"We saw early on the other day he had a leg going in every direction and he was very unbalanced, so on a track like that he probably wants a bit of ease in the ground.

I think on a more conventional track he'll be fine on faster ground, but we won't make any plans until we see how he is."

Arrest is currently fifth-favourite for the Irish Classic at a general 12/1.
