Systems and administrative error leaves Brighton with two-runner race

Four runners set to line up in the 4:30pm "Follow @attheraces On Twitter Handicap" (Class 6) (4yo+ 0-65) at Brighton racecourse are ineligible to race and have been made non-runners.

The confined handicap was restricted to horses four years old and upwards, rated 46-65, which have not won more than two races but four of the horses due to compete have previously won more than two races.

The horses in question: Sprit Warning, Kondratiev WaveVitesse Du Son and Rivas Rob Roy were all forced to be declared non-runners just an hour before the off time.

In a statement released by the BHA, it explained "In fairness to the horses that are correctly entered, it is not possible to adjust the conditions of the race at this stage, nor is it possible to allow the ineligible horses to compete."

"The BHA and Weatherbys apologise to the connections of the affected horses, and steps will be taken to consider what compensation can be offered as regards entry fees and transport costs."

"The BHA will also work with Weatherbys to understand what caused this issue and what steps can be taken to ensure that it does not occur again."
