Khaadem supplemented for July Cup as 14 stand their ground

14 horses stood their ground at Monday’s confirmations stage for Newmarket’s July Cup on Saturday which included Charlie Hills’ Khaadem being supplemented at the cost of £36,000.

The Charlie Hills-trained surprise Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes winner was expected to be supplemented following the trainer stating that a spin on Newmarket's July Course was the "obvious target" last week.

Khaadem looks set to face fellow Royal Ascot scorer Shaquille as Julie Camacho's also starred among the 14 possible entries. Shaquille provided Julie Camacho with a first Group 1 success when producing a remarkable performance to beat Little Big Bear in this season's Commonwealth Cup. It will be a first crack at older rivals for Shaquille, while Little Big Bear will be looking to regain the winning thread and give Aidan O'Brien another success in the contest having landed the July Cup with fellow three-year-olds U S Navy Flag and Ten Sovereigns over the last decade.

William Buick has been provisionally booked to ride Kinross, who will be without regular partner Frankie Dettori, as Ralph Beckett bids to land a first July Cup.

Michael Dods is no stranger to big-race sprint success and the progressive Azure Blue looks likely to take his place on Saturday for the County Durham-based trainer.

Art PowerLezooCold Case, and Run To Freedom could also feature.

Unbeaten colts set for Superlative Stakes clash

Coolmore and Godolphin have provided some stellar duals in recent years and there looks to be another exciting clash on the table as impressive debut winners City Of Troy and Great Truth both feature in the 12 Superlative Stakes entries.

Aidan O'Brien's City Of Troy was all the rage after his impressive debut success over seven furlongs at the Curragh. The son of Justify created a deep impression that day and left rider Ryan Moore waxing lyrical about his performance.

The Charlie Appleby-trained Great Truth produced a sparkling turn of foot to score by five and a half lengths at Leicester first-time-out and looks like a highly exciting colt for a stable that has won three of the five last renewals of this contest.

Richard Hannon's Son could also take his chance while others to note include Newbury debut scorer Iberian and Cuban Thunder.
