National target for City Of Troy

Ante-post 2000 Guineas favourite City Of Troy will be targeted at the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh on 10 September.

Out of Group 1 Fillies' Mile winner Together ForeverCity Of Troy shaped like a potential Group performer on debut when scoring by two-and-a-half lengths in a seven-furlong Curragh maiden. The Justify colt went to the July Course at Newmarket with a big reputation on his second outing and produced an impressive six-and-a-half length success in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes, beating subsequent Group 2 Vintage Stakes victor Haatem.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien boasts a strong hand of juveniles, with stablemate Henry Longfellow winning the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh in comfortable fashion in mid-August.

"He [City Of Troy] is going to the National Stakes at the moment. If he didn't then Henry Longfellow would go there, but we had it in our heads that Henry would go to the Dewhurst and City Of Troy would go to the National Stakes. I'm very happy with both horses," said O'Brien.

"To go to America you need a good horse running at a very high level and it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that City Of Troy could go.

"We'll see what happens in the National Stakes, but if he was going there is a chance that he could come back to six furlongs for the Middle Park to sharpen him up for America.

"There is a chance he could run on the dirt in America, but we'll see."

City Of Troy is a general 2/1 shot for next year's 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
