Kinross out to defend Champions Sprint title

Kinross will be looking to record back-to-back wins in the Group 1 British Champions Sprint at Ascot on Saturday.

The six-year-old is expected to get his favoured softer surface and is a proven performer on heavy ground, having won last year's Group 1 Prix de la Foret in attritional conditions.

He will retain his partnership with Frankie Dettori, who has ridden the gelding in all but one of his five starts in 2023. The pair recorded an easy win in the Group 2 City Of York Stakes before a close second in the Foret at Longchamp when defending his crown.

"He's in flying form, great form," said Jamie McCalmont, owner Marc Chan's racing manager.

"We're very excited about Saturday's race. It's probably as good a chance as Frankie has on Saturday and without being big-headed maybe his best shot. That in itself gives you butterflies in the stomach.

"Marc and his wife Lily are going to be over here and it's very exciting all round.

"We could definitely be looking for the Kleenex on Saturday, it could be an emotional week for sure."

Kinross is the 2/1 favourite for Saturday's Group 1 British Champions Sprint and is expected to face dual Group 1 winner Shaquille, who is on the comeback trail after a disappointing run in the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup.
