Saturday’s Veteran Chase Day at Sandown Park has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Clerk of the Course Andrew Cooper called a preliminary inspection for 8am on Friday, after a Met Office yellow weather warning was issued for heavy rain on Thursday night. Taking to social media platform X, Cooper reported that 24mm of rain had fallen between 2pm and 8pm on Thursday afternoon and the course were anticipating further rainfall throughout the night.

Following the 8am inspection on Friday morning, Sandown reported that 34mm of rain had fallen overnight, leading to waterlogging in multiple places on the course and leaving the track unraceable.
